The Raspberry 2005
Plastic toys, paint. approx 35cm high.
This little guy was another spur of the moment idea that really worked well. He was a last minute
entry in the Under the Blue Moon
festival's 2005 gargoyle sculpting contest.
He was made out of junk I had lying around the studio in one caffeine-fuelled overnight session. I was my light-heartedly thumbing
my nose at the way that some goths take themselves so seriously. It's mostly the younger ones. Old school goths know that goth culture is
a piss-take on culture in general - including itself.
To my horror, this was exactly how the judges felt too, and I won first prize,
beating out a couple of dozen immaculately and painstakingly constructed entries of a more traditional nature. I'm amazed I got out of there
without being lynched.
